Rimbault, 32 pp; The First Set of Madrigals, for three, four, five and six Voices, composed by John Wilbye, Now First Printed in Score From the Original Part Books A.D. 1598 Edited by James Turle, Organist of Westminster Abbey. 131 pp; Dido and Aeneas, a Tragic Opera in Three Acts, Composed Anno Domini, 1675, by Henry Purcell. Now First Printed. Edited by G. Alex Macfarren, Professor of Harmony at the Royal Academy of Music. 58 pp; Madrigals and Motets, for Five Voices, Composed by Orlando Gibbons, Originally Published in Parts. A. D. 1612, and now first printed in Score. Edited by Sir George Smart, Organist & Composer to Her Majesty’s Chapels Royal. 112 pp. The case is 3/4 black textured pigskin with brown pebbled cloth boards. Originally the folded sheets were edge-glued into the case with Gutta Percha. This early rubber adhesive has become brittle with age and has disintegrated, as is usual with this material. The glue failure means all the folded sheets are now loose and clean of glue reside, making the book an excellent candidate for rebinding. The case is in good condition and all loose leaves of the text block are in very good condition.
